We are all familiar with the ‘downfall’ of Natalia Kills. In 2015, she and her husband Willy Moon were judges on X Factor New Zealand. One fateful live show, Kills was offended by contestant Joe Irvine, adamant that he had copied her husband.
“I am disgusted.”
“Do you not have any value or respect for originality?”
“I am embarrassed to be sitting here in your presence, having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion.”
Willy Moon then chimed in, comparing Joe Irvine to that of Norman Bates; “It’s like Norman Bates dressing up in his Mother’s clothing.” Continue Reading
I have to preface this review with a confession; I know very little music. I cannot distinguish between many instruments, I don’t even know what a mixer does and best of all, I’m deaf in one ear.
Why you should read an album review written by someone who has just confessed to musical illiteracy?
I am sensitive. I am sensitive to the energies of all beings, to the hearts of the broken and to the stories of the experienced. In that sense, music is the blood to my body. I listen to it and become it, mimicking the Gods that created it and resonating with all that gave them the means to do so. Continue Reading
Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel, Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ will go down in history as a defining moment in television. It presents a dystopian future in which a totalitarian government has come to rule the United States.
In this reality, the world’s fertility rate is severely low and thus, women who are able to bare children are are forced to trade in their freedom and become prisoners of their own biology. For those who aren’t fertile, they must spend their lives serving men in other ways or be damned to hell on Earth, otherwise known as the ‘colonies’. Continue Reading
Jake Paul is a social media influencer who admirably so, has been able to gain over 5 million subscribers on YouTube in a remarkably short period of time. Intrigued by his rise to fame, I clicked on one of videos a few months ago, and since then, I have been known as a ‘Jake Pauler’.
Located in the depths of Los Angeles, him and his friends, otherwise known as ‘Team 10’, live together in a mansion. It is there that he has been able to create an empire.
His content involves prank wars, exploring mental hospitals, causing havoc on the set of a Disney show, putting celebrity houses up for sale and more. Ultimately, he uses social media to explore modern day youth culture, which can be both terrifying and captivating at the same time. Continue Reading
I may be a full time student with a part time job, an internship, a house to keep clean and a relationship to maintain, but RuPaul’s Drag Race has taught me that I am a magician; I can make time to watch this show, even when I have none. In fact, my boyfriend and I have managed to watch two seasons in one week. If that ain’t magic, then I don’t know what is.
Firstly, let’s begin with the legend that is RuPaul. He has revolutionised the Drag scene and continues to be one of the most influential figures in the LGBT community. More than that, he is an advocate for equality in all contexts and challenges the status quo by presenting identity as fluid, not fixed. Also, did I mention that he defies beauty both in an out of drag? Continue Reading
I am barely half-way through the new Netflix show ’13 Reasons Why’ and I cannot breathe. The television show depicts the life of Hannah Baker and how the world fell upon her. After taking her own life, she leaves a series of tapes detailing the reasons for her death. They all relate to the people who have hurt her and the situations that she could not escape. It is the first true depiction of suicide I have seen in mainstream media and the first that has been able to capture my grief. Continue Reading
For the purpose of this article, I am going to have to subscribe to the stereotypes of homosexuality and declare my love for America’s Next Top Model. That being said, I am still ready to drag the show’s revival harder than Donald Trump gets dragged.
For those of you who weren’t made aware, Tyra Banks officially declared the end of the show in October of 2015. She believed it had come to its end and stated that cycle 22 would be the last. Following that announcement, all hell broke loose and we experienced the end of the world. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but people were genuinely upset… I sure was. Continue Reading
Even with the most acclaimed of television shows, I am still able to keep my composure. Not even Game of Thrones was able to take my soul hostage until I finished each and every episode. I had control… I usually always have control. That was until ‘Please Like Me’. After subjecting myself to the ingenuity of the pilot episode, I subsequently finished all four seasons in a matter of days. Continue Reading
This year has been a compilation of absolute bullshit. I am unsure of the science behind it all, but it seems that everyone has struggled. From an orange being elected president to the scandalous breakup of the UK from the European Union, everyone has been affected in some way.
I personally deem this year as unsatisfactory due to having more family drama than the Kardashians, navigating through the mental health system, experiencing a few things that nobody should have to experience and smashing my brand new iPhone 7. I am aware that the last one is highly materialistic and indicative of my privilege but nevertheless, it has solidified my hate for 2016. Continue Reading
Before visiting &Sushi in Newmarket, the extent of my Japanese food knowledge was St. Pierre’s Sushi; A food chain that specialises in mediocre sushi. Thankfully, I am now enlightened.
My partner in crime for this experience was my flatmate. She is an unpaid &Sushi enthusiast and upon hearing of my desire to visit, she drove us straight there.
Although it was packed, we simply had to loiter around a few tables until a family of three sensed our hunger and left their empty plates. We took our seats and a nearby waiter began to serve us. I become very overwhelmed by good service because the student budget usually only allows for drive-throughs. Nevertheless, I kept myself together and searched through the menu. Continue Reading
